COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM

WHAT IS A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM?

A comprehensive program is a professional development program comprising several modules; with each module including a webinar and assignments,or a reflection, to be completed by participants.

In 2019, TLN will be offering 4 programs designed to deepen your learning on specific topics. Comprehensive programs create a stronger and deeper learning experience than a single conference or webinar exposure.

Each comprehensive program is divided into modules. Each module will include a live webinar, a learning task and access to a discussion forum. The modules are scaffolded throughout the program to continue to build knowledge and skills on the published topics. The comprehensive programs contributes to VIT PD requirements for ongoing registration and a certificate of completion will be issued for each completed module. 

The 4 courses outlined are delivered independently, so you can enrol in one, two, three or all of the courses, tailoring your professional development needs to your interests and professional requirements. Participants who register for these programs are expected to commit to the various elements of the course and submit all required learning tasks. 

The comprehensive programs, like all other professional development programs on this website are COMPLETELY FREE to all Victorian Casual Relief Teachers.

STRUCTURE OF A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM

EACH COURSE WILL BE HOSTED BY A TLN FACILITATOR AND PRESENTED BY AN EXPERT TEACHER.

CONTENT: This comprehensive programs will dive into the concept oulined in the title of the program.  We will explore theories behind the practice, unpack the High Impact Teaching Strategy based on the various topics and discuss various different teaching strategies that can encourage and foster strong teaching practices in the classroom. 

DELIVERY: Each comprehensive program is divided into 3 modules. Each module will include a Live Webinar session with an expert teacher as well as a Discussion Forum with the Facilitator where participants can log on to ask questions about Learning Tasks or discuss concepts that were discussed in that modules webinar with the facilitator. The modules  are outlined below each course title and the dates and times are provided for your planning needs.

LEARNING TASKS: There will be a variety of different Learning Tasks embedded throughout this comprehensive courses and to obtain a certificate of completion for each module of for the entire course you need to successfully complete and submit the required Learning Tasks BEFORE the closing date of the course.

CERTIFICATESParticipants will receive a certificate of completion for each webinar/forum. If you complete the entire course you will receive a certificate of completion for this comprehensive program that will recognise the additional time that was taken on the Learning Tasks in this program. On each certificate you will see your name, date of issue, title of the course/module, topics covered and total professional development hours completed for each module or the entire certificate. 

COMPLETION: For participants to receive the certificate of completion for the entire comprehensive program they are required to attend all live webinars/forums (attendance will be taken) and successfully submit the required learning tasks. Learning tasks are required to be received by the TLN before the closing date of the course. In the event that participants cannot attend a live webinar they are to watch the On-Demand recording of the session and notify the facilitator of completion to have their work recognised.

The learning in a comprehensive program is sequential. Participants are required to access webinars and complete learning tasks in each module before moving to the next stage of the program.

A certificate of completion will be issued to participants who attend all webinars and complete/submit all learning tasks
before the published closing dates for the comprehensive courses.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course focuses on ways to differentiate and setting challenging learning goals for students as a CRT. How can you quickly assess students’ prior knowledge and skill set and quickly process this data to tailor the learning goals for the students in that lesson? This course focuses on quick methods to establish an understanding of the students’ knowledge and ability and how to establish feasible learning goals.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Questioning students is a quick way to assess student understanding, and is particularly useful to CRTs who have limited time with a class. This course looks explicitly at the different ways a teacher might use questions to assess student understanding verbally and informally. The manner with which a teacher might accept answers and create an atmosphere of safety and support will also be examined.
